Dr. Tan was born and raised in Miramichi, New Brunswick. She moved to Montreal to continue her education at McGill University for her undergraduate Science degree, followed by her dental degree in 2004. Dr. Tan completed a one-year fellowship at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and then received her Orthodontic specialty training and Masters of Science degree from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2007. Upon graduation, Dr. Tan was recipient of the Alpha Sigma Nu Award, an honour to those select students in higher education that have distinguished themselves through scholarship, loyalty, and service. Dr. Tan volunteers her orthodontic services to Smiles 4 Canada, which provides free orthodontic treatment to patients in need.

Continuing to learn and grow with the profession is a priority for Dr. Tan. She is a member of the Ottawa Orthodontic Study Club, the Ottawa Women Dentists Study Club, and the Smiles by Specialists Study Club; they all allow her to remain up-to-date of the newest developments, techniques, and technology in Orthodontics and Dentistry. She has lectured to the Ontario Dental Assistants Association and to the Ottawa Women Dentists Study Club.

Dr. Tan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, as well as a member of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, Canadian Dental Association, Ontario Association of Orthodontists, Ontario Dental Association, Ottawa Dental Society, and Ottawa-Gatineau Orthodontic Alliance. She has chaired or served on multiple committees of the Ottawa Dental Society and has been a Councillor of the Ontario Dental Association.

Dr. Tan is married to Dr. Martin Lin, and they have three young sons. While family time is a top priority for her, she also enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing, and traveling.
