At your initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to meet our team, take a tour of the office, learn more about orthodontics, and receive a complete orthodontic exam to learn which treatment options will best meet your needs.
During your initial consultation, we will:
- Review your dental and medical history
- Perform a complete oral exam and take x-rays, as needed, to determine whether treatment is indicated at this time
- If treatment is indicated, Dr. Tan will create a customized treatment plan and review treatment options
- If you are not yet ready to begin orthodontic treatment, we will review timing of treatment and what type of treatment to expect in the future
- Discuss financial information and payment plans, and provide you with insurance forms if you have coverage

What happens after the initial consultation?
You’re one step closer to achieving the smile you’ve always wanted! After your consultation, diagnostic records will be needed to finalize the treatment plan. This appointment consists of taking photographs, x-rays, and a digital scan to produce diagnostic models. For convenience, if you are ready to proceed with treatment, diagnostic records can be completed on the same day as the initial consultation.
The next step is to start treatment! After reviewing the Informed Consent and Financial Contract, Dr. Tan and her team will place your new orthodontic appliances. This appointment generally takes about 60 to 90 minutes. During this time, our team will be available to make sure you are as comfortable as possible and we will teach you how to take care of your new orthodontic appliances.
Scheduling appointments
Generally, orthodontic patients are seen on a four- to ten-week interval for orthodontic adjustments. Visiting the orthodontist at the appropriate interval is a important to keep your treatment progressing on schedule. Our scheduling team will work with you to make your appointments as convenient as possible. When scheduling appointments, please let us know which days and times work best for you.

Visits with your dentist during orthodontic treatment
It is very important that you continue visiting your family dentist at least once every six months for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups, even during your orthodontic treatment. Occasionally, we will recommend hygiene cleanings every three to four months during orthodontic treatment. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure you receive the best possible care.
